The Solution Architect will oversee the design and communication of high-level structures to enable and guide the design and development of integrated solutions that meet the needs of the business. The role will also provide high level advice and recommendations to the business in shaping solutions, based on their specialist expertise and experience. The Solution Architect reports to the Enterprise Architect with no direct reports.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Partner with our Architects and Engagement Teams to ensure Strategic Alignment or initiate new strategic directions where necessary.
  • Partner with our internal infrastructure teams as well as vendors to define the requisite infrastructure environments.
  • Assist in the development of Procurement Strategy, RFx and evaluation criteria
  • Partner with our Business Analysts to understand customer requirements and lead their articulation as functional and logical designs.
  • Oversee and facilitate technical steering groups as part of formal or informal consultancy / project agreements.
  • Work with the Enterprise Architecture competency centre to establish and apply standard methods, tools, templates, processes and practices
  • Use appropriate tools and frameworks, including logical models of components and interfaces, to develop systems architectures in specific business or functional areas.
  • Produce detailed component specifications and translates these into detailed designs for implementation using selected products.
  • Provide specialist advice on technical aspects of system development and integration (including requests for changes, deviations from specifications, etc.) and ensures that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices (including security) are applied correctly.
  • Oversee technical teams to optimal solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Review others' systems designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple systems and technology.
  • Make substantial contribution to policy for selection of architecture components.
  • Evaluate and undertake impact analysis on major design options and assess and manage associated risks.
  • Ensure that the system design balances functional, service quality and systems management requirements.

Who you are:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification as well as a minimum of five years’ professional experience in software development including at least three years’ in a solution architecture role.
  • Well-developed solution architecture and system design skills.
  • Exposure to building and designing Power Platform or Azure AI solutions.
  • Working with technical teams, cyber, data and architecture to ensure solution meets the need of business stakeholders.
  • An understanding of industry recognised architectural frameworks.
  • Demonstrated understanding of procurement practices.
  • An understanding of various delivery lifecycles and where and why they should be used.
  • An understanding of cloud, managed service and on-site deployment and integration architectures.
  • A well-developed appreciation of the relationship between solution architecture and enterprise architecture.
  • Strong presentation skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to structure and articulate messages to different audiences at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ensuring that the underlying problem is understood and a robust approach / solution is developed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with different levels in an organisation.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of leading and emerging practices in solution architecture and provide detailed advice regarding their application and execution in practice.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
