The Opportunity

The Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics (ACAP) is seeking a Senior Operations Manager. In this vital role, you will work closely with, and on behalf of, the Centre’s Executive Director and UNSW Node Lead to provide high level strategic, operational and reporting requirements of the of the ACAP.

This role involves providing expert strategic advice and leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of operational systems, governance frameworks, and compliance mechanisms across ACAP. You will shape governance structures that support effective decision-making and ensure alignment with UNSW policies, government regulations, and funding agreements. The role also includes contributing to operational goals by applying substantial knowledge to evaluate policies, programs, and initiatives that advance the centre’s objectives. Additionally, you will oversee performance, workforce planning, and capability development, while driving the refinement of policies and procedures to support centre-wide operations.

This role will report to Professor Renate Egan and has two direct reports.

  • Salary - Level 9: Starting at $148,012 to $157,055 per annum + 17% superannuation

Skills and Experience

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience in program management, strategic operations, or a related field; or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Proven track record of leading complex, multi-stakeholder programs or initiatives within a higher education or research environment, with substantial impact across institutions or sectors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, policy development, and governance, with the ability to influence institutional priorities and shape operational frameworks.
  • Extensive experience in managing relationships with senior stakeholders, including government agencies, funding bodies, and industry partners, with a focus on strategic alignment and collaborative impact.
  • High-level capability in interpreting and applying complex funding agreements, legislative requirements, and university policies to operational contexts.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams, managing performance, and driving cultural and procedural change across diverse work units.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex information into strategic insights and deliverables for executive audiences.
  • Advanced organisational and project management skills, with a proven ability to manage competing priorities, deliver outcomes under pressure, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • High-level proficiency in digital platforms and enterprise systems, including financial, project, and reporting tools.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
