UNSW Medicine & Health is a national leader in learning, teaching and research, with close affiliations to several of Australia’s finest hospitals, research institutes and health care organisations. With a strong presence at UNSW Kensington campus, the faculty have staff and students in teaching hospitals in Sydney as well as regional and rural areas of NSW including Albury/Wodonga, Wagga Wagga, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.

Why this role matters  

The Research Infrastructure Manager leads the Medicine & Health Research Infrastructure and Operational Services (MEDRIOS) Team within the Faculty of Medicine & Health, overseeing and implementing efficient and effective delivery of day-to-day operations of high-quality biomedical research facilities, scientific and other support services.

The Research Infrastructure Manager works closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives and implement initiatives, ensuring the management of processes and delivery of operational services meet the faculty's research outcomes and maintain the high standard research facilities.

The role reports to the Faculty Executive Director (FED), with a dotted reporting line to the M&H Deputy Dean, Research (DDR). The role works closely with, Heads of Schools, Centre's, Institute and Business Partners from UNSW Divisions. The role has thirteen direct reports.

Key skills required:

  • Relevant qualifications with extensive relevant experience in providing high quality operations or operational support within a research setting.
  • Proven extensive experience in people leadership, development, engagement, and management, with the demonstrated skills to motivate inspire, and mobilise diverse teams to create a positive workplace culture and deliver quality outcomes in a complex environment.
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft 365 suite, oracle databases and online collaborative applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced. Proven ability to influence senior management and stakeholders as appropriate to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Sound influencing and consultation skills and proven ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to exercise independent judgement and problem solving with the ability to resolve and address issues as they arise.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
