Why your role matters

In this key position, you will provide dedicated and strategic executive support to the DVC Indigenous and a range of internal stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include offering high-level advice on governance structures to enable effective decision-making, while ensuring all activities align with UNSW’s compliance requirements. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by contributing to both strategic and operational projects that support and advance the University’s Indigenous strategic priorities.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:  

  • Proactively advise, influence and contribute to the Indigenous business planning and objectives, whilst exercising discretion, initiative and confidentiality at all times.
  • Initiate and/or manage projects and ensure the involvement of appropriate stakeholders. Monitor actions to ensure the efficient follow-through, resolution evaluation, and closure of the projects.
  • Ensure the operations, strategies and businesses of the Portfolio are consistent with the overarching Strategy of the University and ensure that appropriate governance is followed in line with University policies.
  • Support the DVC Indigenous to manage and deliver strategic and operational goals through the provision of research support, strategic advice, project management and the development of policies, procedures and proposals.

About You:    

  • This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified position. Applicants must be an Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander person. Confirmation of Aboriginality is required.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven skills and experience in strategic and resource planning within Indigenous higher education, goal setting and project management.
  • Demonstrated success designing and delivering university strategies, programs and initiatives. • Ability to lead, motivate and train team members, to establish priorities and manage competing deadlines for self and others.
  • Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • High level organisational skills with proven ability to deal with multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy, working with a range of computer systems and applications.
