Why Your Role Matters:

H2Seq: Viral genomics for public health interventions in HIV and HCV is a large Medical Research Futures Fund (MRFF) supported national project which aims to develop systems for improved public health metadata collection to be combined with high throughput viral sequencing and bioinformatic systems for ‘near real time’ molecular epidemiological analyses for newly acquired HIV and HCV infections to guide public health responses.

The Project Officer is responsible for supporting the research team in implementation and coordination of prison-based research projects for hepatitis C molecular epidemiology in H2Seq. The Project Officer will be responsible for the preparation and management of key project documents including study protocols, ethics and governance applications, as well as coordination of research activities and data collection. The Project Officer will use their experience in clinical research to implement, monitor, and report on the conduct of clinical research projects, and provide strategic and tactical guidance on operational matters.

The Project Officer reports to the H2seq Project Manager and will work closely with Hepatitis C team leader who leads the hepatitis C activities in H2Seq.

Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in clinical, epidemiological, or biomedical research. Experience with research project coordination including management of clinical data collection in the field, as well as data transfer processes, and database development and maintenance.
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office suite with a proven aptitude for learning new software packages.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with a proven ability in establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent communications skills, including in interactions with diverse clinical and research stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in project coordination, including analytical, problem solving, reporting skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated experience completing ethical and regulatory applications and modifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally and interstate, as required.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
