Research Officer – The Kirby Institute

  • Employment Type: Part - time (8.75 hours a week)
  • Duration: Fixed Term contract until 30th November 2027
  • Remuneration: $103,866 base pro-rata, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading

Details of the role

The Research Officer will contribute to the development of a Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) framework among people who live with hepatitis C (HCV) in Australia to assess stigma and barriers to accessing HCV testing and treatment. The role will support an innovative research project focused on identifying barriers to intervention strategies among people living with or at risk of HCV in Australia. Through this work, the Research Officer will provide critical evidence to inform the design of more effective and equitable HCV interventions, supporting progress towards the World Health Organization’s HCV elimination targets by 2030.

The role of Research Officer reports to the Lecturer in the Surveillance and Evaluation Research Program at the Kirby Institute and has no direct reports.

Some key skills required:

  • A university degree in health economics, public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
  • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in preference-based research methods, including Discrete Choice Experiments or related quantitative methods.
  • Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
  • High-level computer literacy, including experience with statistical or data analysis software (e.g. Stata, R, SAS, MATLAB, or similar).
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
