The Faculty of Science teaches approximately 7000 full-time student equivalents, with an academic staff of approximately 500 and general staff of 300. The Faculty is one of the largest and most complex faculties of UNSW Sydney. It comprises the School of Aviation, Biological Earth and Environmental Science (BEES), Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (BABS), Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Mathematics and Statistics, Psychology, and Physics. It also includes several major Research Centres and field stations.
The Senior Academic Programs & Quality Officer (Curriculum Transformation) will play a key role within the Faculty of Science in supporting changes to academic offerings in response to the Academic Calendar change, due for implementation in 2028, and other curriculum transformation projects in alignment with the Progress for All strategy. This a collaborative role where you will work closely with the academic leadership team and project administrators across the Science Education Team (SET) and various schools within the Faculty.
About the role
- $113k - $123k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
- Fixed Term – 2 years – (to December 31 2027)
- Full-time (35 hours per week)
The role reports to the Education Support and Quality Manager within SET and has no direct reports.
Specific responsibilities for this role include:
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of University and Faculty policies and procedures, relevant to governance, design, delivery, review, and quality of academic offerings.
- Provide effective advice and training to academic staff on the policies, procedures and systems for the creation, revision and disestablishment of programs, specialisations and courses in the Faculty.
- Create and manage workflows and systems for managing curriculum related projects, such as calendar and curriculum transformation projects.
- Act as the faculty's primary liaison for the administration of UNSW curriculum management system (currently ECLIPS) in relation to changes required for curriculum transformation and independently coordinate academic offerings' proposals from Proposal Creation stage until sign-off by the relevant Faculty Committee.
- Provide high level governance support to Faculty Education Strategy committees, such as the Strategy Steering Committee, which includes coordinating the meeting pack, recording accurate minutes of meetings in a timely way and escalating changes proposed by committee to relevant stakeholders, ensuring all documentation is of the highest standard and align with strategic objectives.
- Independently administer the timeline and tracking of change proposals required for all Program, Specialisation and Course proposals required to implement calendar and curriculum transformation, and support School and Faculty staff in identifying and comply to necessary deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with academic and professional staff within the various Schools across the Faculty of Science to support their local governance needs.
- Support the coordination of key quality assurance activities such as Program Simplification, Annual Course and Program Monitoring, and other Curriculum projects as indicated by the Education Support and Quality Manager.
- Work collaboratively with the central Academic Administration and governance teams to ensure productive relationships are developed and maintained.
- Take a leadership role in implementing centralised systems for effective management of records related to governance, program reviews and accreditations in the Faculty of Science.
- Proactively lead and identify business improvement activities to streamline processes to enhance administrative efficiency and academic program governance.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
About the successful applicant
(Selection criteria)
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience in education, program management or related field, or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- High level expertise in utilising curriculum management systems, with demonstrated proficiency using ECLIPS or similar/equivalent systems.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies and procedure related to academic governance, with a proven track record of advising on policies and procedures to ensure alignment with Faculty strategic objectives.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering targeted training and high level advisory support to academic staff on the policies and systems relating to programs, specialisations and courses.
- Proven track record in coordinating quality assurance activities, such as maintaining accurate documentation for governance and/or project-related deliverables , independently managing data compilation, creating information packs, and preparing documentation for committees and stakeholders.
- Excellent time management, organisational and problem-solving skills, with experience in prioritising complex projects that require balancing multiple priorities, maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Outstanding interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, ensuring a professional communication style is maintained at all times.
- Demonstrated experience delivering high quality, customer service and support, with the ability to address and resolve complex client needs at all levels.
- Highly proficient computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Power BI for data analysis.
- Proven ability to make sound judgements and work both independently and as part of a team.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
