Why your role matters
The Policy Officer will play a key role in a major policy transformation project within the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Quality (DVCAQ) portfolio. This project aims to develop a new Program and Course Policy by reviewing, streamlining, and consolidating existing policies and procedures.
Working closely with the Policy Developer and Policy Leads, the Policy Officer will contribute to drafting revised policy documents, lead the development of specific policy areas, and provide expert advice throughout the consultation and implementation process.
The role reports to the Senior Academic Offerings Officer (Policy Developer for the project) within the Academic Offerings team and has no direct reports.
Main responsibilities summary
- Coordinate and contribute to the review, drafting and consolidation of policies and procedures related to UNSW programs and courses
- Write policy documents in plain, consistent language and remove duplication
- Engage and consult with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop evidence-based policy solutions
- Undertake research and benchmarking to support continuous improvement
- Prepare supporting resources, reports and templates to assist policy development and implementation
- Provide clear policy advice and guidance to stakeholders on interpretation and implementation
- Support project leaders with tracking progress and completing assigned actions
Who You Are
We’re looking for someone who aligns with UNSW’s vision and values, is highly organised, and brings the following skills and experience:
- Experience in developing, reviewing and communicating policy and procedure documents, as well as managing policy processes would be an advantage (experience in higher education is highly regarded)
- Proven ability to manage projects and resources effectively to deliver outcomes on time
- Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, well-structured reports and policy documents in plain language for a variety of audiences
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and communicate it clearly
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to changing demands, and meet deadlines using sound judgement and initiative
If you don’t have prior policy experience but have experience with improvement projects in academic administration, we’d still love to hear from you. This is a hybrid, full-time role (Monday to Friday) offered for a six-month fixed term, with no extension currently planned. We are looking for a start date as soon as possible.
