Why The Role Matters:

Australian Creative Histories & Futures (ACHF) is a national research infrastructure project led by researchers at UNSW’s School of the Arts & Media in collaboration with the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) as well as universities and industry partners across the country. The project spans workstreams in interoperability, Indigenous data governance, community accessibility and sector uplift. It offers new and exciting insights into Australia’s creative history and heritage for scholars, policy makers and artists.

In consultation with ACHF Research Leads, the Program Manager will provide high level leadership and coordination within Australian Creative Histories & Futures, ensuring its various partners and stakeholders are aligned on the strategic implementation and delivery of this multi-partner and multidisciplinary project.

The role entails strategic management and oversight of multiple project workstreams. The Program Manager will ensure the effective management of professional staff, internal and external relationships and timely delivery of project milestones. The role reports to the Research Leads of Australian Creative Histories & Futures. The Project Manager, Communications and Engagement Coordinator, Research Data Specialist and Research Assistant report to the Program Manager.

  • Providing strategic leadership to integrate ACHF project partners’ work to achieve the project objectives in alignment with UNSW expectations.
  • Collaborating with the Research Leads to translate the project’s vision into strategic plans, frameworks, and policies that ensure the delivery and sustainability of the ACHF project outputs and outcomes.
  • Developing and managing strong stakeholder relationships with funding bodies, government agencies, cultural institutions, universities, and community groups, representing UNSW and the project at senior levels.
  • Overseeing and taking responsibility for project governance, frameworks, performance and reporting to ensure accountability, transparency and delivery excellence.
  • Overseeing the project communications and visibility strategies to raise the profile of the project and its outcomes nationally and internationally.
  • Managing the ACHF project finance including budgeting and financial year acquittal reporting.
  • Leading, managing and developing the ACHF project professional staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation to effectively deliver the project on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards.

Skills and Experience: 

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Substantial experience in a senior project management role involving large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects, preferably in the arts, culture, higher education or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects with multiple stakeholders and complex interdependencies.
  • Proven management experience of complex projects, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
  • Demonstrated success leading and managing teams to work effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
  • Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
  • Capacity to mentor and motivate staff in how to anticipate and resolve project issues
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Proven experience effectively managing complex project stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
  • High level of experience working with a range of computer systems and applications.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
