The Program Manager plays a lead role plays a lead role within the Faculty of Science in the planning, development and implementation of the Future You program.
The Program Manager is responsible for project planning documentation, identifying and building appropriate project teams and initiating and overseeing the project, including managing all stakeholder engagement and quality assurance for Future You, a program aiming to shift perceptions about who belongs in STEM education and careers among all students aged 8 – 12 years, their teachers, and their parents and carers. The Future You program has two core objectives: 1: Inspire girls and children from other underrepresented backgrounds and identities to pursue STEM careers by challenging stereotypes and communicating that STEM is for everyone; and 2: Raise awareness of the range of exciting STEM skilled career opportunities available by providing real life examples of people working in STEM careers, and showing the different career pathways students can take.
The Program Manager has accountability for the successful delivery of Future You and must ensure the project is delivered to a high standard and in alignment with funding agreements. The Program Manager role involves overseeing the design, delivery, and impact tracking of the program.

About the role
- $127k - $143k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
- Fixed Term – 6 months (MAT leave coverage)
- Part-time (Hours negotiable between 14 and 28 hours per week)
The role reports to Professor Lisa Williams, Program Director, Future You and has 3 direct reports.
Specific responsibilities for this role include:
- Oversee and manage the delivery of the agreed milestones and KPIs for Future You, ensuring the program is delivered on time and to budget in alignment with funding agreements, as relevant.
- Undertake day-to-day project management, including the development, the delivery and the evaluation including input into project planning and documentation.
- Manage project dependencies, risks, issues, change requests and financials and work with the project team to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place.
- Manage the establishment and implementation of project plans, schedules, risk assessments and budgets for Future You.
- Ensure all aspects of Future You are evidence-based and delivered to a high standard.
- Lead and report on the iterative Theory of Change development process.
- Ensure that the status of project deliverables are being effectively monitored and tracked.
- Oversee and finalise effective communications with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the project, including project reports to funders.
- Engage in priority outreach and engagement events, including interstate travel as required.
- Oversee the digital presence of Future You including the website and on social media.
- Organise appropriate contracts with vendors and liaise with UNSW Legal as needed.
- Ensure Future You complies with relevant legislation, policies and guidelines.
- Line manage staff as required.
- Manage adherence to UNSW governance pathways to ensure projects are managed within a defined, consistent and proven set of rules for project development.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
About the successful applicant
(Selection criteria)
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven project management experience, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation, including consultation and negotiation especially when dealing with senior stakeholders and partners.
- Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
- High level of experience working in a range of computer systems and applications, including the Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- Demonstrated efficacy in line managing team members.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
