Lecturer (EF) Rural - Wagga Wagga

  • Employment Type: Part - time (7 hours a week)
  • Duration: Fixed Term contract until 30th June 2026
  • Remuneration: $127,947 base pro-rata, plus 17% superannuation, leave loading and clinical loading (as appropriate)

UNSW Rural (Wagga Wagga campus)

UNSW Rural brings world-class medical education to rural and regional Australia, delivering the full 6-year medical course at our rural campuses across several locations. Face-to-face teaching is critical to rural program delivery as students build strong relationships with and benefit from more personal interaction with clinicians and other academics and become a part of the local medical community. UNSW’s program has strongly supported the aims of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program for over 25-years, delivering excellence in rural medical education and student experience.

Details of the role

UNSW’s Education Focussed (EF) roles enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. Those who are appointed to this prestigious specialism will be expected to successfully drive educational excellence within the university’s teaching and learning communities.

The role of Lecturer, Rural will be committed to high quality teaching with a demonstrated interest in local rural medical education and a strong focus on the ‘Application of Basic Sciences for Clinical Competency’ in the practice of medicine and/or ‘Patient Cantered Interdisciplinary Healthcare’ in the practice of medicine.

The position of Lecturer reports to the Director of Medical Education at the identified campus and has no direct reports.

Some key skills required:

  • A BMedMD, MBBS (or equivalent), and a Fellowship of a Specialist Medical College and eligible for medical registration in New South Wales, and/or a qualification in a relevant health discipline and maintenance of currency in registration from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated record of achievement and effectiveness in practical face-to-face teaching and supervision at undergraduate level with a proven commitment to rural medical and health education.
  • Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning and encourages student immersion.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials and small group teaching for the relevant phase required within the undergraduate program.
  • Support the recruitment of rural students in the Rural Entry Admissions Pathway (REAP) including participation in interview training and medicine student entry interviews.
