Why your role matters
This role is management level in the Operational Finance function. The Operational Finance function is made up of several teams comprising of Finance Support Services, Help Desk, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Finance Systems and Projects for larger finance process and system change.
Operational Finance’s key objectives are to support UNSW with core system and transactional (operational and general accounting) activities, and work towards standardised processes with continual improvements in systems and process to support UNSW financial management integrity and strategy.
About the Role
As the Manager for the Finance Support Services team, you will manage the service deliverables of Finance Support Services (FSS) providing leadership, guidance and support to team leads, supervisors and team members to move toward standardised processes and ensure services are timely, consistent, efficient and compliant. This role has a number of direct reports with a span of control of 25-30 team members. This role will also be instrumental in any future transition of accounting related activities to the FSS team and with larger system implementations. The FSS team work closely with the wider stakeholder community across the Faculties and Divisions, in conjunction with the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Help Desk teams for daily transactional processing.
About You
- A combination of relevant tertiary, professional accredited accounting qualification and subsequent relevant experience. CPA or equivalent is preferred.
- Proven experience in a mature shared service environment within a large organisation, with the ability to provide actionable operational advice and guidance in coordinating and delivering financial services in a complex structure.
- Advanced financial acumen and expertise to be able to assess, develop and embed sustainable financial controls within the processes in the FSS team and assist with other parts of Operational Finance, in conjunction with the Associate Director.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful business outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative, think strategically and prioritise effectively coupled with a good understanding of end-to-end financial processes and the ability to identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Demonstrated problem solving, planning and organisational ability to deliver results and enhance the value provided to local area finance operation in delivering their operational and strategic plans.
- Strong leadership experience with demonstrated capability to identify and establish priorities and mentor, develop, and motivate the team to deliver value to stakeholders and customers.
