Site Maintenance Officer, Alice Springs

Employment type:  Part time, 15-20 hrs per week, Monday to Friday
Duration: Fixed-term contract to 30th September 2027; extendable subject to funding renewal
Remuneration: Level 5 - from $ 88,717 (this is the full-time salary for 35 hours per week. UNSW will adjust down pro-rata for this part-time role) plus 15% loading and 17% superannuation.

Why Your Role Matters
The Balloon Launching Station is used to conduct stratospheric balloon flights for research in astrophysics and environmental sciences.  From time-to-time international balloon campaigns are conducted from this site. Past campaigns have involved NASA, the Japanese Space Agency JAXA, and the French Space Agency CNES.  The site maintenance officer’s role is vital to ensure a safe and well-run site.

 

Who You Are (skills and experience): 

  • Proven mechanical skills
  • Be able to work independently with honesty and reliability
  • A good communicator when speaking to people and able to put this in writing using basic office work skills
  • Have successfully completed your Year 10 certificate
  • Though not a requirement of the role, it would be an advantage to hold and have completed safe heights work training and/or a forklift licence.
