Why your role matters

The Scholarships team plays a vital role in administering all undergraduate and postgraduate coursework scholarships for both local and international students, while ensuring compliance with the ESOS Act and related legislation. The Manager of Scholarship Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Scholarships team, including the distribution of scholarships and awards to undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students. This position also ensures the effective financial management and reporting within the team.

The Manager of Scholarship Operations reports directly to the Head of Admissions & Scholarships and supervises a team of eight direct reports. The role also involves working closely with key colleagues in the Admissions and Scholarships Office, including the Manager of Admission Operations, Manager of Admissions Processing, and Manager of Admissions and Scholarships Enablement.

Additional accountabilities include:

  • Mange staff, and schedule resources and activities, to ensure that all aspects of scholarship administration are completed within the agreed timeframe and budget.
  • Lead a highly customer focused team, with demonstrated commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor the budgets for all Scholarship funds and reconcile accounts to meet UNSW and external auditing standards

About You:  

  • Degree with at least four years subsequent relevant experience to consolidate and extend the theories and principles learned OR an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience
  • Proven ability to exercise initiative, to think strategically and creatively, and to adopt an active approach to problem-solving
  • Experience in developing, interpreting and applying policy and procedure documents
  • Experience of managing change within an administrative and/or service environment
  • Experience of leading a team to deliver high quality services to customers in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with proven experience of managing workflows and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing reports that present a cogent and coherent argument or case, based on the analysis and synthesis of information from a range of sources
  • Sound Financial skills, including demonstrated capacity to develop and analyses management reports from financial and student systems
  • Superior skills in the use of standard office desktop software such as email, work processing, spreadsheets and internet applications for researching and preparing reports, statistics and other documents
  • Demonstrated experience as a regular or advanced user of business systems, such as student administration HR or finance applications
  • Extensive knowledge of the wider University community (or similar) and an appreciation of the relationship between UNSW Scholarships and the broader University community
  • Ability and capacity to direct and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the safety management system.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
