The UNSW Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (DSIEE) leads UNSW’s efforts to make a positive and lasting impact on society, promoting equity and social justice, and driving engagement activities which enhance UNSW’s reputation as a key contributor to society through its research, teaching, and community engagement. 

Within the Strategic Events department of DSIEE, the Venue and Event Services team (VES) are specialists in delivering meetings and events for internal and external clients across a variety of venues. This includes the UNSW CBD campus, Parramatta Innovation Hub, John Niland Scientia Building, Clancy Auditorium and the Science Theatre. VES coordinate and deliver the venue logistics, audio visual requirements and work closely with the contracted caterers to ensure a consistent and high quality hospitality experience.  

The audio-visual operations team are responsible for providing superior customer service and delivering VES audio-visual services to internal and external clients, with a focus on providing solutions to achieve clients desired outcomes. The Senior Audio-Visual Technician is responsible high level operation of audio-visual, lighting and streaming equipment for events, training and supervision of AV staff, ensuring integrity of AV systems, managing and escalation of onsite risks.  

This position reports to the Audio-Visual Operations Manager and has no direct reports. Weekend and out of hours work is required. The role involves manual handling and operation of audio-visual equipment. 

Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in audio-visual technologies with subsequent relevant experience in the operation, maintenance of audio-visual and multimedia systems for events or equivalent competency gained through any other combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring, and training audio-visual technicians to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with high level or attention to detail for event and audiovisual deliverables. 
  • Sound stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in the operation, maintenance and installation of lighting, theatre, audio-visual and streaming systems. Including multi-venue theatres with a high level of knowledge of technical standards and best practices with demonstrated practical application of audio-visual system design principals. 
  • Excellent time management skills, with demonstrated ability to response to changing priorities in a live events environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously as well as collaboratively and productively within a team.
