Why your Role Matters
As Head of Talent and Engagement you will take a leading role in shaping the direction of programs and initiatives that support UNSW’s talent management, performance and employee retention frameworks delivered by your team.

In this newly developed position, you will work closely with senior leaders to strengthen the organisational approach across employee engagement and performance and ensure the delivery of forward-thinking people and culture strategies are embedded into our ways of working.

Reporting directly to the Director of Culture and Capability, and overseeing a team of eight direct reports, you’ll bring a holistic, evaluative approach to attract, develop, and retain top talent, whilst upholding a strong focus on diversity and inclusion. Shape the future of UNSW's talent and engagement landscape, contributing to the creation of an exceptional employee experience.

Key focuses of the role include:

  • Continuous enhancement of succession planning and career pathways, identifying and nurturing high-potential talent
  • Designing and implementing robust performance management frameworks to enable employee engagement, uphold UNSW's values and drive a high-performance culture.
  • Integrate Talent & Engagement perspectives, ensuring the new operating model and systems are optimized, using a human-centred approach for design, processes, and data review
  • Champion the integration of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) principles into organisational culture, promoting respect, belonging and a sense of purpose for all employees

Skills & Experience summary: We’re looking for a leading people and culture professional with extensive experience in organisational development, employee engagement, and enterprise-wide strategy implementation. Demonstrated success in team leadership, you’ll be confident in working cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement and high-performing organisational culture.
You’ll hold the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant qualification or years of experience in Human Resources, Organisational Development, Organisational Psychology or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in enhancing employee engagement and building a positive, high performing organisational culture.
  • Track record in designing, developing and implementing enterprise-wide strategies that support workforce development and engagement. These could include talent development, succession planning, retention, performance management, wellbeing or engagement.
  • Previous experience collaborating with colleagues and project teams to design, implement and refine Talent & Engagement modules as part of a larger IT system transformation and
  • implementation.
  • Extensive experience leading and managing teams, including the ability to inspire, develop and guide a high-performing team. Strong skills in coaching, mentoring and facilitation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including senior leadership, academic and professional staff and external partners.
  • Ability to use data and analytics to track the effectiveness of programs and inform the design and continuous improvement of initiatives.
