The UNSW Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (DSIEE) leads UNSW’s efforts to make a positive and lasting impact on society, promoting equity and social justice, and driving engagement activities which enhance UNSW’s reputation as a key contributor to society through its research, teaching, and community engagement.

We are seeking a dynamic Program and Events Officer to take the lead on a range of key online and on-campus events as part of Student Equity’s annual initiatives. This role focuses on delivering pre-tertiary educational outreach programs for students in Years 9-12, as well as training and development opportunities for current UNSW staff and students.

Collaborating closely with the Engagement Officers, Learning Experiences, and Students as Partners teams, the Program and Events Officer ensures the successful planning and delivery of on-campus events, incursions, residential programs, and new initiatives. Reporting to the Engagement Manager, this role does not have direct reports but may oversee casual staff when required.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:  

  • Lead and deliver a multifaceted event suite both online and face-to-face to ensure the strategic outcomes are met.
  • Work collaboratively with the key work areas of Students as Partners and Engagement and divisions, such as Future Student Recruitment to ensure the delivery of innovative and high-quality events.
  • Effectively communicate event objectives, key messages and logistics to the broader work area and senior leaders to ensure compliance with UNSW policy.
  • Prepare project templates and event documentation including, but not limited to, initial venue and design scoping, budget development, post-event analysis, critical incident reporting, risk assessments and run-sheets.

About You:     

  • A relevant degree and skills gained through any combination of education, training and experience in events (both online and in person) and program administration.
  • Highly developed time management and organisation skills with the ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to articulate information clearly and succinctly.
  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate with influence, build and maintain positive working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including University staff and students, vendors and external partners.
  • High level event management skills including experience in event design, authoring risk assessments and associated project documentation.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications, Zoom webinar, event platforms and databases (Qualtrics and CRM databases).
  • Proven organisational skills and the ability to operate autonomously while demonstrating strong initiative and a proactive approach to driving process improvement.
  • Full and unencumbered driver’s licence and ability and willingness to work outside of normal working hours and work at locations across Sydney.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
