The Opportunity

The research group of Associate Professor Jarryd Pla has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow. In this position, you will engage in simulation, design, and experimental work on room temperature maser technologies. Your primary focus will be on developing maser amplifiers using nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond—a groundbreaking technology recently pioneered at UNSW.

This role will report to Associate Professor Jarryd Pla and has no direct reports.

  • Salary, Level A - $110,059 to $113,891 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full time
  • Fixed-term contract – 32 months

Skills & Experience

  • PhD in Physics, Quantum Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related area.
  • Demonstrated track record in the operation of spin-based or microwave quantum technologies.
  • Demonstrated track record of assembling microwave circuits and performing microwave measurements.
  • Experience in operating class 4 lasers and/or strong magnetic fields is desirable.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
