Details of the role
A Research Assistant is responsible for the effective support and assistance of research projects in the fields of viral hepatitis and health of people who use drugs. This includes the provision of research assistance and support primarily for The Australian Hepatitis C Point-of-Care Program.
This is a program funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health to establish a National Hepatitis C Point-of-Care Testing Program, consisting of a network of sites to scale up point-of-care HCV testing in settings providing services to people at high risk of acquiring HCV infection. This role will require large amounts of fieldwork and travel will be required.
The role of Research Assistant reports to a Clinical Trials Manager, The Kirby Institute and has no direct reports.
Some key skills required:
- Graduate biomedical science qualifications or other medical qualifications including Nursing and subsequent relevant experience in the conduct of multicentre clinical trials, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Support with high intensity testing campaigns for hepatitis C point-of-care testing in both prison and community settings.
- Liaising with participating sites and study teams to arrange and prepare for high intensity testing campaigns, including coordinating travel plans for yourself and other team members as required.
- Support with data collection, recording and reporting from the high intensity testing campaigns.
- Assist the data managers with creation of data and reports in data systems such as REDCap.
- Excellent time management skills, with an ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
