The Opportunity
Join the School of Biomedical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW as a Professor of Practice – Regulatory Affairs. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in bridging academic scholarship with real-world experience, drawing on deep insights from a successful career in industry, government, or the broader community to enrich teaching and education. You will lead regulatory education within the School, including the coordination and delivery of BIOM9410 Regulatory Requirements of Biomedical Technology. In addition to teaching, you will support researchers in developing robust regulatory strategies and contribute to UNSW’s lifelong learning initiatives in regulatory science.
With its emphasis on integrating practical expertise into academic learning, this part-time position offers an excellent opportunity for someone with extensive experience to contribute to education and share their regulatory knowledge with the next generation of biomedical engineers. This role reports to the Deputy Head (Academic) and has no direct reports.
- Level E, Salary - $237,784 per annum + 17% superannuation (pro-rated to 0.4 FTE)
- Part time – 14 hours per week (0.4 FTE)
- Fixed-term contract – 1 year

Skills and Experience
- A relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g., MSc, PhD, or equivalent professional experience) is preferred.
- Distinguished individual with a major impact in regulatory affairs relevant to biomedical engineering.
- Well-established and sustained record of professional practice and leadership in regulatory science.
- Substantial senior industry experience, typically of at least 15 years in regulatory roles.
- Demonstrated experience in relationship building and management across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Successful track record of liaison between industry, government, and academia.
- High-level interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with students, researchers, and other stakeholders.
- External visibility and impact in the field, with a national/international reputation for excellence in regulatory affairs.
- Experience in curriculum development and/or tertiary education is highly desirable.
- Understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
