Why your role matters

The Senior Project Officer plays a key role in providing high-level, practical, and efficient project support to the Executive Director, Indigenous Students, aligned with the university-wide UNSW Indigenous Student Success Plan. The role involves delivering project management and analytical support, building key internal and external relationships, developing communications, and providing consultation on key programs and projects.

The position collaborates with Nura Gili, Faculties, and Divisions to provide reporting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student outcomes. It is committed to fostering student success across undergraduate and postgraduate studies, ultimately supporting progression toward fulfilling careers. The Senior Project Officer reports to the Executive Director, Indigenous Students, supports the Deputy Vice Chancellor Indigenous, and has no direct reports.

Specific accountabilities include:

  • Lead and monitor projects supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
  • Develop project plans, track progress, and manage risks
  • Report on outcomes and provide data-driven insights
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Coach Indigenous staff in project management and reporting
  • Contribute to university-wide and government reporting on student outcomes

About You:    

  • This position is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only. Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required.
  • Proven project management experience, including understanding the project life cycle and developing project plans, objectives, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to create positive, vibrant, and respectful relationships, successfully collaborating with people at all levels within an organisation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail for all deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis, program evaluation, and reporting.
  • Proficient with a range of computer systems and applications, including statistical databases, Microsoft Office, and CRMs.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks, and meet competing deadlines using judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, while also taking initiative and working independently to manage competing demands.
  • Be available to occasionally attend meetings, functions and events outside of core hours including the weekend, at regional, remote and interstate locations as required.

Pre-employment checks including a NSW Working with Children’s Check are required for this position.
