Why your Role Matters
Take a leading role in implementing the Policy Framework at UNSW to ensure clarity, consistency, and accessibility for staff in the Divisions of Operations.
Working as part of the university-wide Policy Transformation Project, you will bring your skills as a policy editor/writer to oversee the consolidation and redesign of professional policies. With the ability to take a critical eye and make change recommendations, you will take a structured and strategic approach that ensures the usability and validity of the Operations Division’s suite of policies.
The Senior Policy Officer reports to the Operations Manager, working to inform and influence the implementation of UNSW Policy Frameworks to improve both accessibility and application of policy.
Key focuses of the role include:
- Providing expert advice on the implementation of the UNSW Policy Framework.
- Leading the ongoing evaluation, consolidation and re-writing of the division’s policies.
- Building significant working relationships, consulting with stakeholders and subject matter experts to inform the creation and efficient implementation of policies.
- Uplifting policy development processes, creating implementation resources across templates, development checklists, consultation plans.
- Overseeing the policy review cycle, monitoring the policy database to track policy reviews and ensure documents are current and accurate.

Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in leading the development, review and communication of policies and policy management processes in a large organisation.
- Proven experience in policy analysis and review through high level research, analytical and engagement skills.
- Experience in project and resources management and the development and communication of policies, practices and strategies, particularly in the context of change.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative professional relationships with stakeholders.
- High quality research and report writing with the ability to write for a variety of audiences and an ability to analyse complex information and produce easy-to-read policies and documents.
- Ability to function effectively and independently with the capacity to take responsibility, exercise independent judgement and proactively address and resolve complex problems as they arise, including at senior levels to negotiate and agree on outcomes.
- Experience with the development and management of databases and websites.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, adapt and assimilate information quickly, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
