Why Your Role Matters  

This role is based in the UNSW Library Scholarly Communications and Repositories unit (SCR). SCR provides a range of services to assist academic staff and postgraduate researchers to manage research resources. This includes research data and dataset management, development and support services for managing and sharing information assets, and the management of scholarly outputs through an institutional repository. SCR participates in e-research projects and services supporting research data management needs of the University.  

The Research Support System Specialist is responsible for maintaining (monitoring, reporting, enhancing, upgrading, and testing) library systems and digital tools to make research produced at UNSW discoverable globally. The role of Research Systems Support Specialist reports to the Technical Lead, Research and has no direct reports. 

Main responsibilities Summary  

  • Work collaboratively and creatively with Library colleagues and other areas of the University to contribute to the implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrade of systems, services and digital tools to enable researchers to manage their research outputs, including publications, datasets and creative works, and make them openly accessible

  • Liaise with vendors and user communities to communicate requirements and resolve issues

  • Undertake documentation, analysis and testing of library research support systems, including the institutional repository and publication management system/CRIS, and integrations with external data and discovery services

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of metadata taxonomies, schemas and techniques to improve the discovery and re-use of UNSW’s research outputs including publications, datasets and creative works

  • Contribute to reviewing research outputs including publications, datasets and creative works for publications to the UNSW institutional repository and other repositories. 

Who You Are  

You hold a degree from a higher education institution or possess an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training, and/or experience. You have strong numeracy and analytical skills, with a proven ability to work accurately and maintain a high level of attention to detail. You are adept at troubleshooting and understand the use of scripts and harvesting to extract and manipulate data from a variety of sources. Your strong communication skills enable you to document procedures and workflows effectively, understand business requirements, and communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. An understanding of library-related systems, services, and requirements, including metadata schemas (e.g., MODS, Dublin Core), standards, workflows, resource description, and persistent identifiers would be well regarded.  

Working hours are Monday to Friday, business hours. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.
