UNSW IT is part of UNSW’s Operations Division and provides high quality, sustainable, flexible products and state of the art technology services to UNSW. The Test Manager will assist in the planning, monitoring, and control of the testing activities and tasks. At the outset of a project, in collaboration with the other stakeholders, the incumbent will, devise the test objectives, apply organizational test policies and create test strategies and test plans. The Test Manager will report into the Head of Testing Services and may supervise the work of Testers.
Specific accountabilities for this role include:
- Lead the team in software testing, including reviewing requirements, specifications, and defining test conditions.
- Manage the end to end operation of software testing from establishment of the scope and depth of testing that is required to data diagnosis and formulating resolutions, whilst providing expert recommendations
- Design and execute the application and business process testing model using appropriate testing tools and techniques, whilst confirming to agreed process standards and regulations
- Manage testing resources, expenses and budget costs against project forecasts.
- Identification of test approaches that optimise delivery schedule adherence and ensure testing activities are performed in accordance with established policies, processes and procedures.
- Analyse and report test activities and results with the aim to identify and implement continuous improvements to testing and QA process, methods, tools and standards.
- Take responsibility for escalating test issues and ensuring they are driven through to resolution.

- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
Skill and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in IT or related discipline together with 10+ years’ experience in software testing.
- Demonstrated capability in Test Process Improvement and Test Process Governance.
- Demonstrated capability in software testing including preparation of test plans, test cases, execution of tests and reporting of defects.
- Extensive experience in the development and implementation of IT testing strategies, including full-lifecycle testing methodologies and the systems development lifecycle
- Strong presentation skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to structure and articulate messages to different audiences at all levels.
- Ability to advocate the value of software testing processes and methods to stakeholders including Project Managers, Business Analysts and Developers.
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly absorb information and utilise it to analyse, interpret and integrate complex information.
- Proven experience in working autonomously and proactively to identify and deliver innovative insights and models to drive business performance.
- Excellent organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, work independently with effectiveness, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative and resolve complex problems as they arise.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
