  • Remuneration: $82,818 - $93,711 Full-time equivalent + 17% Super and leave loading

About The Centre:

The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health (the Centre) is a new major initiative supported by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care, commencing in 2023. The Centre is led by UNSW Sydney (Medicine and Health) together with a consortium comprising The New South Wales Council for Intellectual Disability, Down Syndrome Australia, Queenslanders with Disability Network, First Peoples Disability Network (Australia), Centre for Disability Studies, Mater Intellectual Disability and Autism Service and Mater Misericordiae, University of Melbourne, and Telethon Kids Institute. A further 20 health and disability sector partners and 36 collaborating organisations are also involved. The Centre’s purpose is to improve the health of people with intellectual disability. The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health will be based at UNSW Medicine and Health, UNSW Sydney.

Establishing the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health is a vital step in improving the health of people with intellectual disability. The Centre will bring together experts, resources, and research on intellectual disability healthcare.

Why Your Role Matters:

As the Workplace Support Officer, you will support the active participation of employees with lived experience of intellectual disability (lived experience employees) in their respective roles within the Centre, including providing workplace-based supports, to help them perform their work, achieve their work goals, and be contributing members of the team. As a part of the broader Inclusion Support function of the Centre, you may also provide support to Council and Advisory Committee members to facilitate access, inclusion and participation in the work of the Centre.

The role reports to the Inclusion Manager and has no direct reports.

Who You Are:

  • Relevant qualification with subsequent relevant experience in educating or supporting people with lived experience of intellectual disability, including people with complex support needs, in a workplace environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including experience in providing mentoring to people with emotional and social support needs.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including with people who experience communication impairment and have emotional support needs.
  • Ability to make sound judgements and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Advanced time management, organisational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Highly proficient computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications and videoconferencing platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and contributing to projects and initiatives.
  • A valid working with children check will be required
