The Lead Data & Reporting Analyst plays a central role in planning and delivering high-quality reporting and data analysis functions within Student Equity. This position is responsible for ensuring strong analytical capability across both internal and external reporting requirements, as well as overseeing data collection and management to support evaluation, monitoring and evidence-based decision-making.
Reporting to the Data and Analytics Manager, the Lead Data and Reporting Analyst does not have direct line management responsibilities, but may provide supervision and guidance to casual staff as require
Specific accountabilities include:
- Lead the data management requirements of the work area, including maintaining and proactively updating multiple large tracking spreadsheets for monitoring student engagement, integrating data sourced from other parts of the university and facilitating internal and external data requests in accordance with data privacy requirements.
- Develop and maintain high-quality Power BI data models and visualisations, ensuring data for evaluation and reporting purposes is accessible and fit for purpose for relevant stakeholders.
- Support rigorous evaluation practices to track progress towards the strategic goals of Student Equity.
- Contribute accurate data insights and precisely written summaries from both quantitative and qualitative data to reports and support the preparation and organisation of reporting documents to a high professional standard to demonstrate the impact of our work to both internal and external audiences.
About You:
- Relevant tertiary qualification, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering high-impact Power BI dashboards that synthesised large, complex datasets into clear, decision-ready insights, enabling stakeholders to identify trends, risks, and performance gaps (e.g. through robust data modelling, DAX measures, and stakeholder-driven visual design).
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining large and complex datasets, using advanced Excel techniques to ensure data quality, accurate matching, and consistency across sources (including robust validation, reconciliation, and error-checking processes).
- Experience in data collection and analysis for evaluation/monitoring purposes, preferably in the context of student initiatives in higher education
- Excellent organisational skills, a high attention to detail and an ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
- High proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint to produce high quality professional documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including experience writing reports and communicating data insights and evaluative findings compelling to various stakeholders.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
