Why Your Role Matters

The Prior Learning Assessment Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the credit transfer and recognition of prior learning (RPL) functions within Registrar & Student Services. This role ensures assessments of prior study are timely, consistent, policy-compliant, and student-focused.

You will lead the development and implementation of institutional credit frameworks, manage the credit assessment team, and partner with faculties and external providers to strengthen articulation pathways and recognition strategies that support student admission and progression.

The position reports to the Head, Admissions, Scholarships and RPL, with two direct reports.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Credit and RPL function, driving continuous improvement of assessment and articulation processes
  • Develop and implement policies and frameworks aligned with best practice and regulatory standards (AQF, TEQSA, ESOS)
  • Provide strategic advice on credit trends, risks, and opportunities to enhance student pathways
  • Oversee credit transfer, advanced standing, and RPL assessments, including complex cases, ensuring timeliness and consistency
  • Maintain and expand the credit precedent database and articulation register with academic and external partners
  • Monitor and improve KPIs, turnaround times, and service quality
  • Collaborate with faculties and partner institutions on articulation agreements and recognition arrangements
  • Provide expert guidance and training on credit assessment and curriculum design
  • Represent the institution in credit-related forums, working groups, and benchmarking activities
  • Ensure compliance with higher education standards, frameworks, and policies
  • Coordinate audits and prepare credit activity and compliance reports for governance committees
  • Support international admissions by advising on qualification equivalence and recognition frameworks
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture focused on excellence and student experience

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and values and comes with:

  • Deep understanding of credit recognition, AQF standards, articulation frameworks, and RPL policy.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with a passion for coaching and developing others
  • Experience in interpreting complex academic and regulatory frameworks and advising stakeholders.
  • Strong consultation, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability with initiative and flexibility.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication, with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with student information systems, credit databases, and business process tools (e.g. Callista, Student One, CRM systems).
  • Proven success working collaboratively across diverse teams and projects.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
