About UNSW:
UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. Yes, we’re a large organisation with a diverse and talented community; a community doing extraordinary things. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter. It’s the reason we’re one of the top 20 universities in the world and a member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and do meaningful work, you’re in the right place.
Why your Role Matters:
UNSW’s Marketing & Digital Experience team is seeking a skilled UX/UI Designer to help shape intuitive, user-centred digital experiences for Future Student audiences. This role plays a key part in delivering seamless journeys and polished interfaces that align with UNSW’s strategic goals and its commitment to ‘Progress for All.’
We’re looking for someone who can operate autonomously at a midweight level. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working across both UX and UI design, with the ability to balance user needs with business objectives.
Strong experience with Figma and a deep understanding of design systems — including creating and maintaining them — are essential.
You’ll work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment and report to the UX Lead. Together with stakeholders across marketing, content, digital, and recruitment, you’ll help ensure our digital products are accessible, on-brand, and deliver real impact.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a data-informed, audience-centric team working on industry-leading platforms — all while supporting UNSW’s global reputation and commercial success.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, product owners, developers, and other designers to define and deliver visually aesthetic, accessible, responsive digital experiences for future UNSW students.
- Independently conduct user research to understand user needs and behaviour using methods such as interviews, usability testing, surveys, and other quantitative or qualitative techniques.
- Present research findings and design concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs for web and digital products
- Be a champion of UX/UI best practice within your team and when collaborating with the wider university.
- Help evolve and maintain the UNSW design system, patterns, and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and use your UX/UI expertise to ask considered questions and advocate for user needs.
- Stay up to date with UX and UI best practices, higher education trends, and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1+)
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
- Support the maintenance and enhancement of the Global Experience Framework library to ensure knowledge transfer is accessible
Skills and Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- At least 3-4 years of experience as a UX/UI Designer, with a proven track record of delivering high quality user-centered design solutions.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating a solid understanding of user-centered design principles and showcasing a range of design projects and processes.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Good communication, collaboration, and self-leadership skills, with the ability to effectively communicate design solutions to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Passion for user-centered design and a commitment to staying up-to-date with emerging design trends and techniques.
- Self-initiative and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
