About the Role
UNSW Planning and Performance (UPP) builds capability in business intelligence and planning through reliable, robust data managed via the enterprise data warehouse, Information Hub, and Data and Information Governance.
As a key strategic resource, UPP provides senior University management with analysis, insights, and reporting, including submissions to the Commonwealth Government and other statutory bodies.
The Data Engineer supports planning, coordination, and delivery of the Azure data platform and development of the Azure Data Lake. They contribute to complex projects, system enhancements, and business process improvements, working closely with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure quality service delivery. This role reports to the Senior Data Engineer and has no direct reports.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in and be responsible for:
- Oversee the delivery of complex system solutions, establishing and controlling project constraints and scope.
- Utilise advanced skills in the design of data models.
- Contribute to the design, build and maintenance of data warehouse structures, using modern dimensional modelling principles and techniques.
- Manage and participate in system integration and performance testing to ensure system integrity.
- Deliver secretarial services to nominated committees and business reference groups, draft reports and prepare high level confidential presentations.
- Contribute to and advise on the development of UNSW Planning & Performance policies and procedures and ensure UPP process documentation is current and adheres to business requirements.
- Establish and maintain excellent communication pathways and working relationships with UNSW stakeholders to identify and evaluate business requirements for systems/processes.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and delivering strategic activities in a complex environment, ideally within higher education.
- Strong technical and computing skills (specifically including MS Outlook, MS Excel, and databases), with excellent attention to detail.
- High level project management, analysis, research, planning and advisory skills and experience, combined with creative problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to establish highly effective and collaborative working relationships and initiate change using high level interpersonal, influencing and written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated high level administrative and organisation skills; including proven ability to prioritise high volume workflow to meet critical and competing deadlines.
- Ability to write complex Structured Query Language (SQL), manipulate and analyse data using various tools (including Azure Data Factory & Data Bricks ) and present the results in data visualisation and presentation tools (e.g. Power BI).
