Why Your Role Matters:

The Academic Engagement Librarian is a professionally qualified member of the Information Services Department and provides consistent high-quality education, research and outreach services in support of the education, research and engagement goals of the University. The role is responsible for engaging Faculties, Schools, Centres and Institutes across the University to connect academics and HDR candidates with Library services and resources. The role participates in the development and delivery of high-quality teaching services scaffolded around the Library’s Digital Information Skills Framework aimed at equipping students with digital literacy skills and enhancing their study capabilities.

The Academic Engagement Librarian brings in-depth disciplinary knowledge, a sound understanding of current issues in the Higher Education sector and works closely with staff from other Library units and the University to deliver a broad range of high-quality services to all sectors of the UNSW community. These high-quality services include Ask a Librarian scholarly support; Outreach Consultations for education, research and engagement; Research Consultations; Researcher Workshops; collaborative library sessions, and discipline specific services as part of the Library Model for Curriculum Support.

Who You Are:

Our ideal candidate should possess excellent collaboration and communication skills. You should be able to work independently and in teams and enjoy providing guidance and support to a diverse range of stakeholders, including faculty members, researchers and students.

  • A relevant degree from a higher education or research institution, with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience. Eligibility for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association would be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering in-person, online and hybrid consultations and workshops in higher education, research or similar environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and client liaison skills with demonstrated ability to influence and sustain relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team and across units, and to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • Demonstrated experience using innovative technologies to enhance library services for digital information literacy and online learning.

Questions:

  • How will your skills and experience help you succeed as an Academic Engagement Librarian?
  • How would you navigate requests from Faculty/Clients that extend beyond the Library’s usual service offerings?
  • The role’s priority is gathering business intelligence and sharing information. Describe how you proactively share information, ask for clarification, or communicate updates with your supervisor and colleagues as a part of your workflow.
