This role is based in the People & Culture (P&C) team, within the Operations Division at UNSW.

Why Your Role Matters:
As Team Leader - Quality and Compliance (Q&C), you will oversee the compliance monitoring function, managing activities and reporting that ensures compliance risks are effectively monitored and mitigated. Lead a dedicated team of Officers who track, monitor, and respond to compliance risks identified through P&C reports and process controls, upholding the consistent application of policies and procedures.

This role reports into the Head of P&C Quality and Compliance to ensure highest standards of quality and operational alignment. Providing leadership to Quality and Compliance Officers, you will work to enhance compliance efficiency and effectiveness across the University, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and sustainable pay confidence in a dynamic higher education environment.

Key focuses of the role include:

  • Leading Q&C Officers in ensuring P&C systems and processes meet compliance requirements and align with operational workflows.
  • Managing the ongoing development of the BAU compliance monitoring and reporting function to address and mitigate identified incidents.
  • Tracking and monitoring compliance risks highlighted in P&C reports and process controls, highlighting areas for improvement.
  • Applying the University's Pay Confidence Accountability Framework across compliance monitoring processes, ensuring managers understand and fulfill their compliance responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with the Quality and Compliance Partner to set the strategic direction for consistent compliance guidance and oversee the resolution of complex issues.

Who You Are: We’re looking for a HR/ER leader with a strong background in compliance within a large complex organisation, confident in interpreting HR data and providing evidence-based actions, alongside the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing a broad range of authoritative HR or ER advice and assistance to diverse client groups on a range of complex policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in HR compliance, employment relations, or risk management within a complex organisational environment.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret HR data and provide evidence-based recommendations.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple levels.
  • Advanced level of proficiency in HR systems, Microsoft Office applications, and data analysis tools such as PowerBI.
  • Proven organisational skills and the ability to operate autonomously while demonstrating strong initiative and a proactive approach to driving process improvement
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving skills.
