  • Remuneration: Level 6 $96,960 - $103,434 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading

Why your role matters:

UNSW is growing its Health & Safety capabilities to respond to and prevent psychological harm in the workplace and provide an environment that minimises risk to everyone’s health and safety. This role directly supports the university’s approach and Staff Mental Health & Wellbeing strategy by case managing responses to individual staff matters.

While this role involves responding to and managing individual staff matters, you’ll also be supporting UNSW in its efforts to prevent harm by identifying systemic factors which contribute to experiences of harm. The role requires a willingness and capability to work with team colleagues and influence organisational stakeholders to influence the working environment for staff for the better.  

The Psychosocial Risk Advisor – Case Management reports to the Manager, Safer Communities and does not have any direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Building collaborative relationships with and providing psychological health advice to workers, managers, senior leaders, HR, and WHS staff on cases/matters relating to prevention, response, and return to work.
  • Triaging and responding to reports of psychosocial hazards and incidents in UNSW’s Health & Safety system (including those involving Gendered Violence) and assisting with investigating incidents.
  • Managing cases, providing referrals to professional care, ongoing support and providing guidance to workers in relation to psychological work-related injuries, illnesses, and conditions.
  • Collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure a positive return to work experience.
  • Providing support and guidance to staff who may require it as a part of a Human Resources or other staff complaints process.
  • Working with the Safer Communities team to develop and refine UNSW’s strategy/approach to responding to and managing reports of psychosocial hazards, incidents, and injuries.
  • Working closely with UNSW’s third-party worker’s compensation self-insurance team including case managers.
  • Assisting UNSW in its commitment to harm prevention by promoting early intervention and identifying and supporting the management of psychosocial hazards and systemic root cause issues.
  • Generate safety reporting as required by the Safer Communities team.
  • Undertake any other safety duties as directed by the safety department, this may include investigations, audits and other safety follow up tasks.

Skills and Experience

  • A qualification in WHS or related field, such as Rehabilitation Counselling, and/or equivalent demonstrated experience in lieu of formal qualifications." Sound knowledge and understanding of safety legislation including worker’s compensation legislation.
  • Experience with analysis, assessment, and management of psychological health matters in the workplace.
  • Experience with Injury Management, Worker’s Compensation, and Return to Work.
  • Background as a rehabilitation counsellor or other equivalent training desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to communicate and build rapport with all stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
