The School of Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine is seeking expressions of interest from qualified individuals for casual teaching opportunities in the Departments of Anatomy, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology and Pharmaceutical medicine
We encourage Expressions of Interest from new and experienced tutors, demonstrators, markers and lecturers who are excited to be a part of an integrated teaching team.
The EOI portal will allow you to select which courses you would like to teach and the extent of your qualifications and experience so we can better assess your suitability.
About the role
Your role is to provide casual teaching support to the course organisers. Your duties may include demonstrating in tutorials, workshops or practical classes, marking, and other miscellaneous course related activities.
You will need:
- Excellent communication skills (both spoken and written formats)
- Ability to answer basic questions confidently and accurately and to provide specific constructive feedback to students and course convenors.
- Proficiency with software applications commonly used in teaching (e.g. Office 365: Word, Excel, Teams, and learning management systems such as Moodle).
- Commitment to follow the UNSW Code of Conduct which deals with confidentiality, discrimination, health and safety, harassment, etc
- Willingness to complete Workplace Health & Safety training and other relevant training as required by UNSW before commencing work.
If you are applying for Department of Anatomy courses, you will need:
- A degree in a Biomedical, Science, Medicine or Allied Health that includes training in Anatomy relevant to the courses and/or activities into which you elect to contribute.
- Completed at least 3 years of anatomy education in one of the School’s undergraduate programs with competency mapped to Level 3 Anatomy programs ,
- Experience in teaching at least one of the following: Anatomy and Neuroanatomy, Histology and Embryology, and ideally courses delivered by the Department of Anatomy at UNSW
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team and/or experience in team teaching delivery modes,
- Demonstrated proficiency with teaching using donor human material, Anatomy Software such as Complete Anatomy and SECTRA.
- (Desirable) be currently enrolled in a postgraduate degree in the discipline.
If you are applying for Department of Pathology courses, you will need:
- A degree in a Biomedical, Science or Medicine program that includes training in Pathology relevant to the courses and/or activities into which you elect to contribute.
- Experience in undergraduate Pathology, ideally courses delivered by the Department of Pathology at UNSW
If you are applying for Department of Pharmacology courses, you will need:
- A degree in a Biomedical, Science or Medicine program that includes training in Pharmacology relevant to the courses and/or activities into which you elect to contribute.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team in an academic environment.
- Proficiency with software applications commonly used in pharmacology teaching (e.g. LabArchives, and GraphPad Prism).
- (Desirable) be currently enrolled in a postgraduate degree relevant to the discipline
- (Desirable) previous experience successfully contributing to the teaching and learning activities within the Faculty of Medicine and Health or a comparable environment.
If you are applying for Department of Physiology courses, you will need:
- A degree in a Biomedical, Science or Medicine program that includes training in Physiology and/or Neuroscience relevant to the courses and/or activities into which you elect to contribute.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team in an academic environment
- (Desirable) be currently enrolled in a postgraduate degree relevant to the discipline
- (Desirable) previous experience successfully contributing to the teaching and learning activities within the Faculty of Medicine and Health or a comparable environment
