The School of Psychology is one of the largest and most prestigious schools in Australia. The School is located in the Faculty of Science and has approximately 50 full time members of academic staff, 15 general staff and an operating budget of over $12M.

The School is very active in research, with most staff holding external research funding. The School has extensive laboratory facilities for both research and teaching and receives almost $15M per annum in competitive research funding. The Clinical Psychologist Registrar is divided equally between providing psychological assessment and treatment to clients attending the UNSW Psychology Clinic and assisting the Psychology Clinic Director in the management of the Psychology Clinic, including operating the Test Library, conducting clinical research, and performing administrative duties related to practice management.  


About the role

  • $98k - $106k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term – 12 months
  • Part-time (28 hours per week)

The Clinical Psychologist Registrar reports to the Psychology Clinic Director and has no direct reports

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Provide high quality clinical care including psychological assessment and treatment for clients attending the UNSW Psychology Clinic for a broad range of mental health issues using evidence-based techniques including, but not limited to, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment, mindfulness, and schema therapy.
  • Maintain all clinical documentation relating to client work, including session notes, reports and letters to referrers in a timely manner and based on best practice professional standards.
  • Assist in the development of improved treatment services by systematically evaluating treatment programs implemented within the Psychology Clinic and updating this based on most current and best practice clinical guidelines.
  • Attend and engage in regular supervision sessions with the assigned Supervisor(s).
  • Perform duties relevant to the management of the Psychology Clinic practice, including respond to face-to-face and telephone enquiries from the general public/clients, maintain and operate clinic databases on clients, manage financial records and banking tasks, and ensuring smooth running of operations within the Psychology Clinic.
  • Participate in and contribute to relevant quality improvement programs and governance meetings associated with the Psychology Clinic.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

About the successful applicant
(Selection Criteria)

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Postgraduate degree in clinical psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (or international equivalent) and eligibility to undertake Registrar Program for area of practice endorsement in Clinical Psychology. Applicants who will be completing their postgraduate degree by end of January 2022 will be considered.
  • General Registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. Applicants who will be completing their clinical training by end of January 2022 will be considered; applicants must at least hold Provisional Registration at the point of application.
  • Demonstrated experience in provision of evidence-based psychological assessment and treatment for a broad range of psychological conditions.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting psychometric assessments with clients across the lifespan.
  • Previous experience in the design and implementation of psychological research
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
