Research is central to UNSW’s goal of becoming a globally recognised research-intensive university. The Research Technology Services team plays a key role in supporting this goal by offering services such as research consulting, HPC and cloud computing, and research data services, under the leadership of the PVC Research Infrastructure. The Research Data portfolio aids researchers by promoting effective data storage and analysis platforms, offering consulting, training, audits, and policy advice.
The Research Data Support Officer supports this mission by providing expert advice on research data management, conducting training and engagement activities, and assisting with support of our data tools such as REDCap and LabArchives.
The role reports to the Research Data Team Lead and does not have direct reports.
The Organisation
UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. Yes, we’re a large organisation with a diverse and talented community; a community doing extraordinary things. But what makes us different isn’t only what we do, it’s how we do it. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter. It’s the reason we’re Australia’s number one university for impact and among the nation’s Top 20 employers. And it’s why we come to campus each day.
About the successful applicant:
You have tertiary qualification and or significant relevant experience and have a strong background in supporting research data activities or have worked directly with large or complex datasets in settings such as universities, eResearch environments, or scientific organisations.
Your expertise in data management is well established, with a clear understanding of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the relevant legislative and policy frameworks. You are confident in your verbal and written communication skills, capable of delivering both technical and policy advice to academic researchers and similar audiences. You understand the Australian national eResearch infrastructure landscape and are familiar with the tools and services available to support researchers in storing, analysing, and publishing their data.
You can independently deliver service promotion activities and have excellent interpersonal skills that help you build and maintain productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You work effectively both independently and as part of a team, managing competing priorities with flexibility and professionalism.
Your commitment to UNSW’s values, policies, and objectives is evident, as is your understanding of health and safety responsibilities, including your willingness to undertake necessary training.
