About the Role
The Portfolio Change Manager provides strategic Change Management support for the Estate Management portfolio, aligned with UNSW’s asset management planning. The role focuses on supporting portfolio-level change across built environment projects, particularly in workspaces, and also in research and education spaces.
The Portfolio Change Manager will develop and lead the change strategy and framework for implementing UNSW’s new workspace model, ensuring a consistent change approach, and alignment with strategic goals. They will assess and monitor the collective impact of change and allocate resources, leveraging Asset Planning Managers and external consultants.
This role reports to the Senior Manager, Strategic Project Planning, with no direct reports.
About the Role
Specific accountabilities for this role include:
- Develop and deliver a change management strategy and frameworks for all change projects while tailoring strategies to meet the unique needs of each project within the university sector and built environment projects.
- Through consultation, provide advice, and maintain the application of the Estate Management change management framework and tailored artifacts/tools (based on the EPMO change management framework and industry best practices).
- Identify and obtain change management resources for the effective delivery of projects within Estate Management and acting as the subject matter expert for procurement of external change consultants.
- Advise on appropriate external consultant approaches to successfully deliver change, manage and undertake procurement and consultant engagement briefings as required.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders, Asset Planning Managers, Precinct Managers and external change consultants to ensure each project applies a consistent change management approach, providing expert support, guidance, and training where required.
- Support, coach and guide the Asset Planning Managers in implementing formal change approaches for the delivery of projects.
- Work with Asset Planning Managers to deliver key project communications to key stakeholders throughout the process.
- Track and provide assurance on the delivery of change across multiple projects, working alongside Change Agents (Asset Planning Managers and/or external Change Consultant/s).
- Establish and review metrics and key performance indicators that measure the success of change, including post implementation reviews, and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Identify, manage and report change related risks and issues, escalating issues as required. Monitor and manage the impacts of change activities as appropriate.
- Provide advice and guidance to mitigate risks associated with proposed changes, considering potential impacts to project outcomes and the broader portfolio objectives. Implement appropriate monitoring and reporting on effectiveness of risk mitigation.
- Contribute to, and advise on, the application of change management approaches for portfolio level initiatives that may impact stakeholders (such as the implementation of new guidelines or policies).
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline with extensive experience in delivering effective change management at a change-portfolio level, particularly, change management within physical built environments.
- Demonstrated experience implementing medium to large sized change initiatives at a change -portfolio level, completing assigned change activities within agreed timeframes and supporting business users to adopt and embed change.
- Experience of Change Management delivery within the higher education sector or similar, developing and implementing fit-for-purpose change approaches and deliverables; ideally with experience in workspace change and building related projects.
- Effective self-leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills, and importantly, the ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal.
- Knowledge and experience of working with a project management framework, including linking this with change management deliverables.
- Demonstrated flexible and agile mindset with the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities.
- Capacity to plan to achieve priority outcomes and respond flexibly to changing and at times ambiguous environments.
- Ability to work systematically to resolve problems, identify causes, anticipate implications, and make informed decisions.
- Knowledge and experience of the procurement and management of external change consultants.
- Strong analytical and proven ability to understand complex business and systems and provide a suited solution for clients. Demonstrated ability to continually improve and proactively problem solve.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to write concisely and persuasively to a wide range of audiences to governance committees.
