  • $85,717-$96,992 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading

The Biological Resource Imaging Laboratory (BRIL) is a unit of the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre located in the Lowy Cancer Research Centre. As part of BRIL, UNSW Biospecimen Services is providing a coordinated, centrally managed biobanking service for researchers across UNSW and its affiliated research institutes, ensuring a high level of standardised processes around all biobanking activities including patient consent, specimen collection, data linkage and research governance, ensuring that UNSW continues to function as a leader in research employing biospecimens.

The Clinical Data Officer facilitates timely and accurate biobank data-management in compliance with relevant privacy acts, UNSW data management and regulatory legislation. You’ll support staff contributing to the delivery of a comprehensive biorepository and biobanking service and work with others in UNSW Biospecimen Services and the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre to engage with a wider group of researchers within the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct. The role also involves liaising with NSW Health, NSW Health Pathology and other stakeholders.

The Clinical Data Officer role reports to the Manager of UNSW Biospecimen Services.

About the successful applicant

You have a relevant degree and or experience, and can demonstrate the following Skills and Experience: -

  • Data management in a hospital/health/research environment
  • Ability to ‘translate’ medical coding nomenclature into research ready datasets and upload into biobanking databases.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality, exercising good judgement in managing sensitive and confidential material such as patient health information.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with ability to meet predetermined targets and deadlines, whilst being flexible and adaptable to meet changing priorities.
  • Highly developed organisational and time management skills, with proven attention to accuracy and detail with respect to preparing documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to develop and sustain relationships and to work collaboratively and effectively with staff and stakeholders at all levels.
  • A strong work ethic and initiative, commitment to continuous improvement, openness to new ideas and creative approaches to problem solving in complex settings with a focus on delivering outcomes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities particularly, in a biomedical environment, and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
