Why your Role Matters
We're seeking expressions of interest across DSIEE for a Senior Policy Officer to take a leading role in implementing and maintaining the Policy Framework at UNSW.
This position will provide authoritative advice and assistance to staff across UNSW on the development and application of policy. Play an integral role in implementing new Policy Frameworks at UNSW and developing processes and resources. You will build significant working relationships across DSIEE and the wider university community, collaborating directly with the Governance and DSIEE and University Executive teams to inform and influence the development of new UNSW Policy Frameworks.
The Senior Policy Officer reports to the Director of Operations and has no direct reports.
Key focuses of the role include:
- Leading the ongoing evaluation and consolidation of the divisions policies, including redesign policy development processes and creating implementation resources across document templates, development checklists, consultation plans.
- Providing expert advice on the UNSW Policy Framework, consulting with stakeholders and subject matter experts to inform the creation of policies.
- Overseeing and managing the policy review cycle, provide strategic advice and feedback to ensure usability and validity of policies by removing duplication and monitoring the policy database to track policy reviews and ensure documents are current

Skills and Experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with substantial relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience within a policy role.
- Demonstrated experience in leading the development, review and communication of policies and policy management processes in a large organisation.
- Experience in successful project and resources management and the development and communication of policies, practices and strategies, particularly in the context of change.
- Proven experience in policy analysis and review through high level research, analytical and engagement skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative professional relationships with university staff and external stakeholders and the ability to act with tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
- High quality research and report writing with the ability to write for a variety of audiences and an ability to analyse complex information and produce easy-to-read policies and documents.
- Ability to function effectively and independently with the capacity to take responsibility, exercise independent judgement and proactively address and resolve complex problems as they arise, including at senior levels to negotiate and agree on outcomes.
- Experience with the development and management of databases and websites.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, adapt and assimilate information quickly, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
