Research Officer (AI and Web Development)

  • Employment Type: Full - time (35 hours a week)
  • Duration: 1-Year Fixed Term
  • Remuneration: $100,354 base (+17% super and leave loading)
  • Work rights required: Full Australian work rights for the duration of the contract
  • Location: Based at Kensington, Sydney

Why this role matters:

Play a pivotal role in a newly funded project focused on developing an AI-driven interactive implementation web application, ImpleMATE. The position will provide technical and research assistance to senior research staff in activities related to the AI-driven platform. This includes utilising expertise in natural language processing (NLP) and web application development to develop, trial, and evaluate health-related applications and IT solutions.

Some key skills required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, software engineering or a related technical field, with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
  • Proven expertise in AI-related technologies including natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs).
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with tools and platforms such as Transformers, Hugging Face, NLTK, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications relevant to web development and multi-user systems.

o Experience in WordPress or similar tools.

o Experience in full-stack development, including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and database management.

o Experience working with APIs (REST and JSON) to support seamless data flow between backend systems and frontend user interfaces.

o Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

  • Expertise in database design and management.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
