A Psychologist / Mental Health Social Worker plays a key role within the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience portfolio, Student Wellbeing pillar, Health theme in the provision of confidential psychological services to students while they are enrolled at UNSW. The role makes a critical contribution to the broad Psychology & Wellness Team in the treatment and support of UNSW student mental health needs within its professional scope of practice.
This requires conducting short-term evidence-based individual, group and systemic psychological interventions and consultation with academic and general staff on student issues. This role works collaboratively with staff across the Psychology & Wellness theme, the overarching goal to support students in achieving their full potential and contribute to an outstanding learning experience aligned with the portfolio’s Education & Student Experience strategy.
The role reports to the Head, Psychology & Wellness, and has no direct reports.

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and values, with exceptional interpersonal and time management skills and who comes with:

Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience, or equivalent competence gained through a combination of education, professional training, and/or applied psychological experience in assessment and therapeutic intervention

Ideally, at least five years full-time equivalent post-registration experience demonstrating advanced understanding of psychological theories, principles, and practice gained through substantial and relevant postgraduate work and supervision within a mental health clinical setting

Ability to provide written and verbal consultation, advice, and support to key stakeholders, including family members, primary carers, academic teaching staff, and other internal/external support services, balancing safety and confidentiality
Working hours are full-time, Monday to Friday, business hours. Whilst there is some flexibility to work from home occasionally, most of the work is expected to be done on campus. Candidates will need to have full working rights – this role is not available for sponsorship. All candidates will also need a valid work with children check and police check.
