Communications Officer - SPHERE

  • Employment Type: Part Time (28 hours per week)
  • Duration: 12-month contract
  • Remuneration: Level 7 $110,073 - $119,132 (depending on experience) 17% super + leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (hybrid flexible working)

Why Your Role Matters:      

The Communications Officer, SPHERE will work closely with members of the SPHERE Executive Team and the Clinical Themes and Platforms responsible for creating marketing and communications strategies to increase awareness of SPHERE, both internally and externally. This includes developing impactful communications and content for the SPHERE website, social media and other internal and external communications channels. 

The Communications Officer, SPHERE reports to the Operations Manager, SPHERE and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write and edit marketing and communications materials, including research stories, newsletters, press releases, and social media content to a high standard
  • Develop, write and design the In-SPHERE magazine by required deadlines.
  • Development and management of the Maridulu Budyari Gumal – SPHERE website., this includes content, presentation, design and updates. 
  • Actively promote SPHERE researchers and work through social media channels.
  • Lead editorial committee and committee member writing and editing/proofreading tasks. 
  • Manage internal communications for SPHERE so that important information is disseminated effectively, and SPHERE stakeholders are engaged. 
  • Contribute to the development, coordination and implementation of a variety of communications projects including a 6 monthly organisational communication plan for SPHERE Council. 
  • Track analytics and create reports detailing successes and failures of communications campaigns. 
  • Work with team members to conceptualise and implement communications strategies and campaigns for events and programs. 
  • Work collaboratively across the SPHERE network and as part of the core team with the ability to prioritise and work to competing deadlines. 
  • Comply with relevant State and Federal Privacy Legislation for the access, use, handling and storage of health data

Skills and Experience:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and a depth of subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training and experience (in a health and medical research environment is desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver range of marketing and communication strategies in line with organisational strategic plans. 
  • Demonstrated broad experience in evaluating the effectiveness of communications strategies. 
  • Proven extensive experience in interviewing, writing and producing effective and engaging content including research stories, newsletters, press releases, blog posts and social media content. 
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders, and exercise creativity and enthusiasm in the development of new initiatives.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to navigate through competing deadlines. 
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
