Why your role matters:  

As the Senior Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow (Level B) you will contribute to team research within the field in which you are appointed and carry out activities to develop your research expertise relevant to your particular field of research.

This position will be based at the UNSW Sydney Node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society, located within the Vitalities Lab, Centre for Social Research in Health and Social Policy Research Centre under the leadership of Professor Deborah Lupton. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work closely with Professor Lupton on the new phase 2 project ‘ADM, Ecosystems and Multispecies Relationships’. The Fellow will collaborate with Professor Lupton on sociocultural research combining qualitative research methods with social theory to research how AI and automated decision-making technologies are being applied to ecosystems and multispecies relationships, including identifying benefits, barriers and harms.

This position provides a unique opportunity to not only collaborate actively with the ARC Centre of Excellence’s national and international network of participants, but also have access to its extensive research training and professional development opportunities, international visiting fellowships and exchanges (travel arrangements permitting), and the Centre’s network of industry and community partners.

This position is being offered as full time for 2 years with a possibility of extension. There may be flexibility to work remotely within Australia and from the vibrant UNSW Kensington Campus.

Accountabilities include

  • Conduct high-quality research relevant to the ‘ADM, Ecosystems and Multispecies Relationships’ project as part of project teams
  • Collaborate on the preparation and publication of research outcomes from this project in relevant high-quality refereed journals, reports and/or books
  • Present research outcomes from this project at seminars, conferences, methods workshops and industry meetings, and engage with external stakeholders
  • Contribute to public understanding and debate through community research translation and engagement activities, media, industry and/or policy engagement
  • Contribute actively to the Vitalities Lab and ARC Centre’s research culture, including participation in research collaboration and community-building within the Centre’s research programmes and focus areas

 

About you

Your skills and experience include:

 

  • A conferred PhD in sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, digital media studies, design studies, environmental humanities or cultural geography, involving the application of qualitative social research combined with social theory.
  • An interest in the topic of digital technologies, ecosystems and multispecies relationships.
  • Demonstrated track record in authorship/co-authorship of research publications involving qualitative social research. Outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

 

To be successful you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
