Why Your Role Matters:
Our Payroll Officers sit within the People Operations team to deliver best practice payroll processing, ensuring efficiency, compliance, accuracy and sustainable pay confidence aligned with pay agreements and strategies at UNSW. Bringing sound knowledge across payroll practices, you’ll work to maintain employee records, respond to enquiries and contribute to process improvement.

Your typical day would be:

  • Accurate and timely processing of end-to-end payroll activities including salary and wages, leave entitlements and terminations
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service to a range of stakeholders, responding to payroll enquiries, clearly explaining outcomes and resolving issues effectively
  • Support and process activities related to employee Masterfile maintenance , ensuring employee information and payroll changes are actioned accurately, compliantly and within required timeframes.
  • Applying and interpreting relevant legislation, Enterprise Agreements and internal policies accurately under guidance to support sustainable pay confidence.
  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of payroll data and resolving discrepancies to ensure compliant and reliable pay outcomes.

Who you are:
We’re looking for an experienced payroll professional with demonstrated experience supporting end-to-end payroll processing in a high-volume, complex environment. You bring a sound working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and Enterprise Agreements and apply this knowledge accurately. You have strong attention to detail, enjoy resolving payroll enquiries, and value collaboration within a dynamic team while contributing to continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems.
You will hold the following skills & experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian payroll legislation
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll processing in a high-volume environment
  • Prior experience in Enterprise Agreement interpretation and application in payroll processing
  • Demonstrated experience in providing superior customer service to support stakeholders at different levels
  • Proficient in Oracle payroll and HRIS products
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products
  • High attention to detail and level of accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

This role reports to the Payroll Team Leader sitting within the People Services Team, alongside other Officers to support payroll processing operations.
