Post-doctoral Fellow – Bushfire Modelling

Employment type:  Full time, 35hrs 
Duration: Fixed term for a period of up to three years
Remuneration: Level A from $88,290 - $117,718 plus 17% Superannuation 
Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

Why Your Role Matters: 
The Research Fellow (Level A) position at the UNSW Canberra School of Science is pivotal in advancing our understanding of bushfire dynamics and their environmental impact. By focusing on dynamic bushfire propagation and extreme fire regimes within the contexts of climate change and Indigenous cultural land management, this role contributes to developing effective strategies for managing and mitigating bushfire risks. Additionally, the position supports related research activities, supervises students, and may assist with teaching, making it integral to both academic and practical advancements in this critical field.

Who You Are (skills and experience): 
Our ideal candidate will have:

  • PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Atmospheric Science, or a similar discipline.
  • Proven ability to conduct high-quality academic research and publish in reputable journals.
  • Experience in modelling physical and/or environmental systems.
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with industry partners.
  • Strong teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities.
  • Commitment to completing tasks within agreed time frames and staying updated with discipline developments.

The successful candidate will be required to work from the UNSW Canberra campus. To be successful you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. UNSW is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.
