The Opportunity

The Faculty of Engineering has an opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer - Experiential Learning. This role will support hands-on experiential learning initiatives across the UNSW Engineering Makerspaces and is responsible for enhancing project-based learning by providing critical support to existing programs and helping improve project outcomes in alignment with academic and industry standards.

You will also contribute to developing new experiential initiatives, setting project milestones and learning outcomes to meet educational and industry needs. Additionally, the role involves supporting Makerspace activities, offering expert technical guidance to students, ensuring project timelines and goals are achieved, and maintaining high standards of safety, technical excellence, and project delivery.

This role reports to the Makerspace Manager, with a dotted line into the Manager – Student Experience & Opportunities and has no direct report.

  • Salary, Level 7: $110,073 to $119,132 per annum + 17% superannuation (prorated to 0.8 FTE)
  • Part time – 4 days per week (0.8 FTE)
  • Fixed term – 24 months
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia
  • On-site role 4 days per week

Skills and Experience

  • A degree-qualified engineer with extensive industry experience in project management or technical support, ideally within a Makerspace, research facility, or engineering workshop.
  • Strong technical proficiency with Makerspace equipment, such as CAD software, CNC machines, and rapid prototyping tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing technical mentorship and guidance, especially in an educational or collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and liaise effectively with students, academics, and industry representatives.
  • Proven ability to manage projects independently, set priorities, and maintain high standards of performance under varying deadlines.
  • Ability to make sound judgements and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
