Why your role matters

Research Grants and Contracts (RGC) within the Division of Research and Enterprise contributes to UNSW’s research performance and profile via the effective management of the University’s research income. RGC is the key link between UNSW researchers, executive and funding agencies such as the NHMRC, ARC, other government and non-government research funders, philanthropic competitive grant funders and industry partners. The RGC teams are a crucial component in the UNSW Strategy; Progress for All.

Leading the Faculty Engagement team within RGC, you’ll strengthen the partnership between RGC and UNSW Faculties. Acting as a strategic advisor to faculty leaders and research support teams to ensure faculty and researcher needs are reflected in RGC’s planning, service model, and decision-making. The position oversees a high-performing team and drives continuous improvement in research management processes, systems, and communications. Overall, the role aims to deliver a consistent, researcher-focused experience across the research lifecycle, including post-award management, contracts, compliance, and reporting.

The Senior Manager, Faculty Engagement reports to the Director, Research Grants & Contracts, and has 5 direct reports.

Who you are

You have demonstrated leadership experience in senior research administration or equivalent academic support services within a university setting, along with a strong understanding of research funding frameworks, compliance requirements, academic drivers, and the broader Australian higher education and research funding landscape.

You’ll bring strong leadership and team management capabilities, with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams with proven ability to inspire, support, and develop staff to achieve workplace goals.

You also possess excellent consultation, influencing, and negotiation skills, allowing you to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers. You exercise sound judgment, tact, and discretion in navigating sensitive and confidential matters.

Additionally, you demonstrate advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven capacity to show initiative, adapt to changing needs, and proactively develop robust, practical solutions. You also have a strong record of contributing to high-level strategic planning, policy development, and successful implementation.
