About the Faculty:

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for a variety of academic positions across the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture (ADA) because we are building and expanding. Why The Role Matters:

The Theatre and Performance Studies program in the School of the Arts and Media at UNSW is one of the oldest and largest in Australia. Today, it is a leading institution for research into the histories and practices of 20th and 21st-century theatre and performance. The Lecturer in Theatre and Performance position is an FTE 1.0 Lecturer Level B role that sits within the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture. Lecturers in Theatre and Performance Studies contribute to teaching and supervision at undergraduate, Honours, and postgraduate level, and undertake research appropriate to their discipline. They also carry out professional, industry and community engagement activities.


Accountabilities:

  • Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning.
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
  • Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics.
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
  • Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.

Selection Criteria: 

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • A completed PhD/DCA in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in practice-based approaches to acting and performing, including in global majority and/or First Nations approaches to theatre-making.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversifying, decolonising and/or Indigenising curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate students at a range of levels and in a range of formats, including the ability to use educational technologies and online methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to support diverse students with a range of learning styles and needs, and the capacity for curriculum design.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise Honours and postgraduate students.
  • Strong record in research with a developing profile in traditional and/or Non-Traditional Research Outputs relevant to the discipline.
  • Potential to attract research grants.
