Why Your Role Matters:

The Head of Finance Business Partnering is the strategic and operational leader of the Finance Business Partnering function for UNSW. Reporting to the CFO, you will lead a team of 10 dedicated Senior Finance Business Partners to deliver financial and strategic advice to enable the achievement of business outcomes and compliance with statutory and financial obligations.

The position also supports the delivery of a portfolio of project-based initiatives that incorporate UNSW-wide, transformational, innovative solutions.


  • Deliver high quality trusted advice and guidance to senior leaders at the University.
  • Deliver strategic resourcing, workforce planning and effective technical and strategic support to a range of stakeholders.
  • Identify the strategic financial management challenges confronting the University and facilitate executive decision making, risk mitigation and resolution.
  • Identify and drive quality reporting and process improvements in financial services to support the University’s financial sustainability.
  • Ensure the Finance Business Partnering function’s performance is exemplary by developing long term strategies and programs to support the teams’ capabilities and professionalism.  

Who You Are:

  • An experienced leader, able to motivate and develop a team to be their best
  • Highly advanced communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline with CPA qualification (or equivalent)
  • Substantial professional sector experience preferably in business partnering or similar key trusted advisor role
  • Extensive experience in management reporting, forecasting, budgeting, financial analysis and modelling techniques that provide analytical and strategic insights
  • Lateral thinking, planning, and organisation skills with an understanding of end to end Finance Processes.
