Postdoctoral Fellow – Human Computer Interaction

The Opportunity

Novel interaction and discreet computing are enabled by new software, hardware and sensing technologies which facilitate new interactive experiences. These are global concerns which require new methods, models, mechanisms and research methods to realise next generation interactive systems beyond the basic forms of human computer interaction (HCI) we are limited with today.

A Level A/B academic is expected to make contributions to the research effort of the institution and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

The role of Postdoctoral Fellow reports to Head of School Prof Aaron Quigley, and has nil direct reports but is expected to actively engage with Professor Quigley’s research students and collaborators.

  • Salary, $96,404 - $127,650 + superannuation

Selection Criteria

Level A

  • PhD (or soon to be awarded) in Human Computer Interaction or related area.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, development and conduct of user facing research studies.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Level B (in addition to the above)

In addition to the above, essential criteria for level B include:

  • PhD in Human Computer Interaction or related area.
  • At least two years of experience in a postdoctoral position conducting research in the field of Human Computer Interaction or commensurate experience through research internships in industry or academia.
  • Proven research and publication track record, particularly in high quality peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervising research students.
