Lecturer x 2 (Clinical Optometry)

  • Employment Type: Full - time (35 hours a week)
  • Duration: Fixed term until 30 June 2027 (2 positions available)
  • Remuneration: $127k - $150k base (+17% super and leave loading)
  • Work rights: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.

UNSW School of Optometry & Vision Science

We are the largest optometry and vision science school in Australasia, dedicated to forming partnerships with the ophthalmic industry and across the healthcare sector. Our school is committed to translational research which leads to practical application and significant improvements in ocular health. The best in practicum experience, the UNSW Optometry Clinic supports optometry education, providing on-campus clinical training for students. The school runs a Vision Education Centre offering eye screening to primary school children. Since 1990, the Centre has screened more than 18,000 children.

Why this role matters  

Opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality optometry and vision science education, playing a key role in shaping contemporary teaching and learning experiences. Working closely with senior academics, you will lead the development and redesign of courses to align with the new UNSW semester calendar and meet requirements set out in the OCANZ Accreditation Framework. The role will also involve driving innovation in teaching practices and programmatic assessment, engaging collaboratively with senior staff and key stakeholders to ensure educational approaches are forward-thinking, evidence-based and responsive to the needs of students and the profession.

Some key skills required:

  • Registered as Optometrist in Australia with ocular therapeutics and demonstrated expertise in clinical optometry; actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and development.
  • Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and professional development
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching, curriculum development, learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry or experience of work-integrated learning (desirable)
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives
